A Christian is someone who has come into relationship with God through trusting in Jesus Christ.
This relationship with Jesus enables a Christian to call God ‘Father’ – as he or she has become part of his family. A Christian recognises that Jesus is their Lord and Saviour.
God in his love and wisdom made us distinct from any other living creature, to live in a special relationship with him. That’s why you and I were made – to know God! Sadly, every individual has either deliberately or unconsciously turned their backs on God and are separated from Him because of actions and wrong doings which Christians call ‘sin’.
The consequence of this lifestyle is that we are cut off from God and don’t have the relationship that he desires. Because of this broken relationship between God and us, God took the initiative to provide a solution.
In the Bible it says –
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. John 3:16-17
On the journey to becoming a Christian we recognise that we can never be good enough on our own to come into relationship with the Father. Therefore, God has provided the way of reconciliation and forgiveness through His own Son Jesus paying the price for our wrongs on the Cross.
